About GCI

Global Conscience is an independent registered not-for-prifit association for peace-building through the promotion and protection of human rights, democracy, governance, the rule of law and social justice. Global Conscience works tenaciously to establish a legal and moral threshold for deep rooted change and fights to ensure greater justice and security for all peoples.

Journalist Samba Churchill wrote the Constitution of Global Conscience Initiative (GCI) in 1999 after he was severely tortured and almost killied by a local militia of the paramount traditional ruler of Kumba and Central Committee member of the ruling Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, CPDM Party.

The organisation was registered Youths for Peace Initiative Cameroon (YPIC) on November 1, 2004, (No. G39/14/5/1006) for peace building through the promotion and protection of human rights through youth clubs. However, on November 5, 2005, the GCI Board resolved to change the name to Global Conscience Initiative to involve every one in the peace building process.

Since 2004, GCI has broght back home hundreds of captives and comforted thousands of afflicted persons in Cameroon. GCI works with and for grassroots pupulations, victims of human rights abuses, prisoners, children, women, migrant workers and other disadvantaged and vioceless persons.
